INO-3401 is a DNA plasmid vaccine developed by Inovio Pharmaceuticals for the prevention of H5N1 avian influenza. The vaccine consists of synthetic DNA plasmids encoding specific proteins of the H5N1 virus, typically including hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). INO-3401 is designed to be administered via intramuscular injection followed by electroporation using the CELLECTRA constant current device. This delivery method utilizes brief electrical pulses to facilitate the entry of the DNA plasmids into host cells, where the viral antigens are then expressed to trigger both humoral and cellular immune responses. The vaccine was evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials (such as FLU-002) as a booster dose in healthy adults who had previously received the VGX-3400X DNA vaccine.
