INO-4885 is a small molecule metalloporphyrin-based catalyst investigated for its cardioprotective properties in the context of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury. It functions primarily as a peroxynitrite decomposition catalyst, rapidly degrading peroxynitrite into benign species with a rate constant of approximately 10^7 M/s. Additionally, INO-4885 acts as an inhibitor of NADPH oxidase, which reduces the production of superoxide and mitigates oxidative and nitrative stress in cardiac tissue. Preclinical studies in mouse models have demonstrated that INO-4885 significantly reduces infarct size, apoptosis, and tissue nitrotyrosine content following ischemia and reperfusion. The compound was developed by Inotek Pharmaceuticals, but research appears to have stalled in the preclinical stage, with no clinical development reported since the initial publications in 2008-2009.
