Overview

INO-6160 is a synthetic DNA vaccine candidate developed by Inovio Pharmaceuticals for the prevention of HIV-1 infection. It consists of DNA plasmids encoding a native-like HIV-1 envelope (Env) trimer and the cytokine Interleukin-12 (IL-12), which acts as a genetic adjuvant to enhance T-cell and antibody responses. The vaccine is typically delivered via electroporation (e.g., using the CELLECTRA device) to facilitate cellular uptake of the DNA. In clinical trials, it has been evaluated both as a standalone regimen and in prime-boost strategies alongside protein-based vaccines like the VRC HIV Env Trimer 4571.
