Overview

INO-6172 is a DNA-launched nanoparticle (DLNP) vaccine candidate developed by Inovio Pharmaceuticals for the prevention and treatment of HIV-1 infections. The vaccine utilizes Inovio's proprietary DNA technology to encode a self-assembling nanoparticle displaying the GT8 immunogen, which is a germline-targeting HIV-1 envelope protein fragment, alongside interleukin-12 (IL-12) as a genetic adjuvant. This approach is designed to provide high and maintained levels of antibody responses, including broadly neutralizing antibodies (bNAbs), while simultaneously generating robust T cell responses. INO-6172 is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials, such as HVTN 305 (NCT05781542), sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and is typically administered via intradermal injection.
