Overview

INO-8000 is a synthetic multi-antigen DNA vaccine designed for the treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, specifically targeting genotypes 1a and 1b. The vaccine consists of plasmids encoding the HCV nonstructural proteins NS3, NS4A, NS4B, and NS5A. By expressing these antigens in vivo after intramuscular injection and electroporation delivery, INO-8000 aims to induce robust HCV-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T-cell immune responses. These immune responses are intended to eliminate cells displaying HCV antigens in chronically infected patients. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that INO-8000 can generate potent intrahepatic T-cell responses capable of clearing HCV antigens from the liver. Clinical trials have shown that the addition of a DNA-based interleukin 12 (IL12) adjuvant (INO-9012) further enhances these immune responses[1][2][3][4][5][6].
