*Inonotus obliquus*, commonly known as the Chaga mushroom, is a parasitic fungus found primarily on birch trees in cold climates such as Siberia, Northern Europe, and North America. It has a long history of use in traditional medicine for treating various ailments, including gastrointestinal disorders and cardiovascular diseases. The mushroom is characterized by its sterile conk, which resembles a mass of burnt charcoal. Its therapeutic potential is attributed to a high concentration of bioactive compounds, including beta-glucans, betulinic acid, and melanin. Preclinical research has demonstrated that Chaga extracts possess significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and potential anti-cancer activities, although large-scale clinical trials are needed to confirm these effects in humans. It is widely available as a dietary supplement in forms such as teas, powders, and capsules.
