Inositol pyrophosphate IP7 is a therapeutic program developed by BioStratum in collaboration with BioCrine AB, targeting inositol hexakisphosphate kinase 1 (IP6K1) for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes. IP6K1 is the primary enzyme responsible for the synthesis of 5-inositol pyrophosphate (5-IP7) from inositol hexakisphosphate (IP6). Research suggests that 5-IP7 acts as a signaling molecule that negatively regulates insulin signaling by inhibiting Akt/Protein Kinase B and modulating insulin secretion. By inhibiting IP6K1, the program aims to reduce intracellular 5-IP7 levels, thereby enhancing insulin sensitivity and promoting glucose uptake in peripheral tissues. This approach represents a novel mechanism for managing metabolic disorders by modulating inositol pyrophosphate signaling pathways.
