Drug intelligence / Profile preview
InRhythm (inhaled flecainide) is a novel formulation of the Class IC antiarrhythmic agent flecainide acetate, developed by InCarda Therapeutics for the acute conversion of recent-onset paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) to sinus rhythm. Unlike traditional oral or intravenous administration, InRhythm is delivered via oral inhalation using a nebulizer, which facilitates rapid delivery to the heart through the pulmonary circulation. This route of administration is designed to achieve therapeutic concentrations quickly, with clinical data showing a median time to conversion of less than 15 minutes. The drug's primary mechanism of action is the blockade of cardiac sodium channels, specifically the SCN5A alpha subunit, which slows conduction velocity and increases the refractory period in atrial tissue to terminate arrhythmias.
