Overview

Instylan is a sterile 0.16% sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) solution classified as a Class IIa medical device and used for intravesical bladder irrigation to restore the glycosaminoglycan (GAG) barrier of the urothelium in conditions such as interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome, recurrent or chronic cystitis, and radiation- or chemotherapy-induced hemorrhagic cystitis.[1][3][5][7][11][13][14] By forming a viscous, elastic film over the bladder mucosa and penetrating into the submucosa, exogenous hyaluronic acid replenishes the defective GAG layer, reduces permeability to toxic urinary components and bacterial adhesion, and thereby attenuates inflammation, pain, urgency, frequency, and hematuria.[1][7][11][13][14] The product is supplied in 50 ml single-use containers for instillation via urological catheter, typically administered weekly for several weeks followed by monthly maintenance, and is marketed in multiple countries through partners such as Red Leaf Medical and others.[3][5][7][8][9][11]
