Overview

NN1952 is an oral insulin analogue developed for the treatment of diabetes mellitus, including both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It is a fast-acting insulin modified from human insulin by substituting Tyr-α14 and Phe-β25 with glutamine, designed to improve oral bioavailability and stability in the gastrointestinal tract[3][5]. The drug acts as an agonist of the insulin receptor, facilitating glucose uptake into cells and lowering blood glucose levels[1][4]. NN1952 utilizes GIPET formulation technology from Merrion Pharmaceuticals to enhance absorption from the gut[5][7]. Clinical development reached phase I trials but no further development has been reported since then[1].
