Insulin aspart is a rapid-acting recombinant human insulin analog used to improve glycemic control in adults and children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. It is designed to mimic the body's natural postprandial (after meal) insulin response more closely than regular human insulin. Insulin aspart works by binding to the insulin receptor on target cells such as muscle and fat tissue, promoting glucose uptake from the bloodstream into these tissues for energy use or storage. It also inhibits hepatic glucose production. The onset of action occurs within 10–20 minutes after subcutaneous injection; peak effect is reached in about 1 hour; duration of action lasts approximately 3–5 hours[1][3][6]. Insulin aspart was developed by Novo Nordisk.
