Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Insulin glargine + exenatide is a combination therapy used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Insulin glargine is a long-acting recombinant human insulin analog that provides basal glycemic control by stimulating peripheral glucose uptake and inhibiting hepatic glucose production. Exenatide is a glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP‑1) receptor agonist that enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, suppresses inappropriate glucagon secretion, and slows gastric emptying. The combination aims to improve both fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes who have inadequate glycemic control on oral agents or monotherapy[4][5][6][8].
