insulin glargine + insulin analogues

This intervention refers to an intensified insulin therapy regimen consisting of the long-acting basal insulin analogue, insulin glargine, administered in combination with three pre-prandial doses of either regular insulin or rapid-acting insulin analogues. This basal-bolus approach is designed to achieve tight glycemic control, specifically targeting a fasting blood glucose level below 5.5 mmol/L and an HbA1c level below 6.5%. In clinical research conducted by IRCCS San Raffaele, specifically the LIMBISCH trial, this regimen is being evaluated for its efficacy in reducing the incidence of angiographic restenosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and peripheral arterial disease following peripheral angioplasty.
