Overview

GEN1501 is a biosimilar of insulin glargine, developed by GeneSys Biologics. It is a long-acting recombinant human insulin analog designed for once-daily subcutaneous administration to help control blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. The drug is intended as a biosimilar to Lantus (insulin glargine), the reference product from Sanofi-Aventis. Its mechanism of action involves mimicking endogenous basal insulin, thereby regulating glucose metabolism by facilitating cellular uptake of glucose and inhibiting hepatic glucose production. GEN1501 has been evaluated in clinical trials for bioequivalence and safety compared to Lantus, primarily targeting both type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus[1][2][3][6][8].
