Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Insulin human inhaled (Dance 501, AER-501) is a novel, preservative-free liquid formulation of recombinant human insulin designed for mealtime (prandial) administration. Developed by Aerami Therapeutics (formerly Dance Biopharm), it is delivered via a proprietary electronic soft-mist inhaler that utilizes vibrating mesh technology to aerosolize the liquid insulin. This delivery method is intended to provide high lung deposition and a more consistent pharmacokinetic profile compared to dry-powder inhaled insulins. In Phase 1/2 clinical trials (e.g., Samba-02), Dance 501 demonstrated a rapid onset of action and glucodynamic properties comparable to subcutaneous insulin lispro, with good tolerability and no significant impact on lung function. The device also features digital connectivity to assist in diabetes management and patient adherence.
