Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Insulin lentiviral vector is an investigational gene therapy platform designed for the treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, including Type 1 diabetes. It utilizes a lentiviral vector to deliver the human insulin (or proinsulin) gene, which is frequently engineered to be furin-cleavable to enable proper processing into mature, biologically active insulin within non-endocrine cells such as hepatocytes. By transducing target tissues, the vector facilitates sustained, endogenous expression and secretion of insulin, aiming to restore glycemic control and reduce dependence on exogenous insulin injections. Preclinical studies in diabetic animal models have demonstrated long-term normalization of blood glucose levels following portal vein or intraperitoneal administration.
