Overview
Insulin lispro + prednisone is a combination of two drugs: insulin lispro, a rapid-acting human insulin analog used to improve glycemic control in patients with diabetes mellitus, and prednisone, a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid used for its anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. Insulin lispro acts by promoting cellular uptake of glucose, inhibiting hepatic glucose production, and facilitating glycogen synthesis. Prednisone exerts its effects by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor and modulating gene expression to suppress inflammation and immune responses. When used together, these drugs have opposing effects on blood glucose: insulin lispro lowers blood sugar while prednisone can increase it by inducing gluconeogenesis and reducing peripheral glucose utilization. This combination requires careful monitoring as prednisone may reduce the effectiveness of insulin therapy in controlling hyperglycemia[1][2][3].
