Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Lyumjev (insulin lispro-aabc) is an ultra-rapid-acting human insulin analog developed by Eli Lilly and Company for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a novel formulation of insulin lispro that includes the excipients treprostinil and sodium citrate. Treprostinil induces local vasodilation and sodium citrate increases vascular permeability, which together accelerate the absorption of insulin lispro into the bloodstream. This results in a faster onset of action and a more rapid peak effect compared to standard insulin lispro (Humalog), allowing for better control of postprandial glucose levels. It was approved by the FDA in June 2020 and is available in U-100 and U-200 concentrations for subcutaneous injection or use in insulin pumps.
