Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Insulin lispro 50 mix is a biphasic insulin analog preparation consisting of 50% insulin lispro protamine suspension (an intermediate-acting insulin) and 50% insulin lispro injection (a rapid-acting insulin). This combination is designed to provide both rapid postprandial glucose control and intermediate-acting basal insulin coverage within a single injection. The rapid-acting component, insulin lispro, begins to work quickly after injection to manage blood sugar spikes following meals, while the protamine-bound component provides a more prolonged duration of action to maintain stable glucose levels between meals and overnight. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control. In clinical practice, it is often used in patients who require both prandial and basal insulin but prefer a simplified dosing regimen with fewer daily injections.
