Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Monotard MC is a monocomponent porcine insulin zinc suspension, historically used as an intermediate-acting biologic for the treatment of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes mellitus. Developed by Novo Nordisk (formerly Novo Industri), the MC designation signifies a highly purified monocomponent formulation. It consists of a suspension of insulin-zinc chloride crystals and amorphous material in a 7:3 ratio, providing a duration of action typically ranging from 13 to 20 hours. As a porcine-derived product, it has largely been superseded in clinical practice by recombinant human insulin preparations.
