Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Insuman Rapid is a fast-acting recombinant human insulin used for the treatment of diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2) where treatment with insulin is required. It contains neutral (regular) human insulin produced by recombinant DNA technology in Escherichia coli. Insuman Rapid acts by lowering blood glucose levels through facilitating cellular uptake of glucose, promoting glycogen synthesis in muscle and liver, inhibiting gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis, increasing lipogenesis while inhibiting lipolysis, enhancing amino acid uptake and protein synthesis, and promoting potassium uptake into cells. Its onset of action is within 30 minutes after subcutaneous injection; the maximum effect occurs between 1 to 4 hours post-injection with a duration of action lasting approximately 7 to 9 hours. Indications include management of diabetes mellitus requiring insulin therapy as well as acute situations such as hyperglycaemic coma or ketoacidosis and perioperative glycaemic control[1][2][4][5][6].
