Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Integrin-αv monoclonal antibody (anti-αvβ6) refers to a class of monoclonal antibodies that selectively target the integrin αvβ6 heterodimer, which is composed of the αv (ITGAV) and β6 (ITGB6) subunits. Integrin αvβ6 is primarily expressed on epithelial cells and is upregulated during tissue injury, inflammation, and in various carcinomas. It plays a critical role in activating latent transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), a key driver of fibrosis and tumor progression. By binding to αvβ6, these monoclonal antibodies inhibit the activation of TGF-β, thereby suppressing downstream fibrotic and oncogenic pathways. This therapeutic approach has been investigated for the treatment of fibrotic diseases, such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and various cancers, although clinical development of some candidates (e.g., BG00011) has faced challenges due to safety concerns related to systemic TGF-β inhibition.
