InteguSeal

InteguSeal is a cyanoacrylate-based topical microbial sealant designed to reduce the risk of surgical site infections (SSIs). Developed by Kimberly-Clark Health Care and later associated with Avanos Medical, it functions as a mechanical barrier that seals and immobilizes endogenous skin flora, preventing their migration into surgical incisions. The product is applied to the skin surface pre-incision using a ready-to-use, single-use sterile applicator and forms a film that naturally wears off as the skin exfoliates over 5–7 days. It is classified as a Class II medical device and received FDA approval in late 2006, as well as CE marking in the European Union. Unlike traditional antimicrobial agents, InteguSeal does not rely on chemical kill but rather on physical sequestration of pathogens residing in hair follicles and skin contours.
