The intensification phase of the Andres J. M. Ferreri protocol is a high-intensity chemo-immunotherapy regimen designed for HIV-positive patients with Burkitt lymphoma who exhibit a partial response or stable disease following induction therapy. This phase incorporates potent salvage regimens such as R-IVAC (rituximab, ifosfamide, etoposide, and cytarabine) or R-ICE (rituximab, ifosfamide, carboplatin, and etoposide), followed by high-dose cyclophosphamide and rituximab for peripheral blood progenitor cell (PBPC) collection. The regimen concludes with high-dose cytarabine and autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT). This multi-modal approach leverages the improved immune status of patients on highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) to deliver curative-intent intensive therapy typically reserved for immunocompetent populations.
