Interferon alfa-2d is a recombinant type I interferon produced using recombinant DNA technology. It belongs to the family of alpha interferons, which act as **cytokines** and have both antiviral and antineoplastic properties. The drug binds to the type I interferon receptor (comprising interferon alpha/beta receptor 1 and 2 subunits) and **activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway**, resulting in the transcription of multiple interferon-stimulated genes. These genes upregulate host innate immune responses, enhance the function of cytotoxic T cells and natural killer cells, boost antigen presentation, and induce enzymes that inhibit viral replication. The agent is used for the **treatment of certain malignancies and viral infections**, similar to other alfa interferons. Its main difference from interferon alfa-2a and alfa-2b lies in a few amino acid substitutions, which do not notably alter its pharmacodynamic profile. The original developer was Wellcome (now GSK).
