Overview

interferon alfa-5 + interferon alfa-2b is an investigational biologic combination therapy consisting of two recombinant Type I interferon subtypes. Developed by Digna Biotech S.L. in collaboration with the Center for Applied Medical Research (CIMA) at the University of Navarra, the combination was designed to enhance the antiviral response in patients with chronic hepatitis C. The mechanism of action involves binding to the Type I interferon receptor (IFNAR), which triggers the JAK-STAT signaling pathway and leads to the transcription of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) that inhibit viral replication. A Phase I/II clinical trial (NCT01121731) evaluated the safety and efficacy of this combination in treatment-experienced patients with genotype-1 chronic hepatitis C, but no recent development has been reported since the trial's completion in 2012.
