Overview

Interferon-alpha 1b is a recombinant type I interferon in the interferon-alpha family, developed and used in China. It is a biologic agent with multiple biological functions, including **antiviral, antitumor, and immunomodulatory effects**. It exerts its effects by binding to the interferon alpha/beta receptor on cell surfaces, activating the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, and inducing the expression of numerous genes involved in the immune response. These actions lead to inhibition of viral replication, modulation of immune cells, and anti-proliferative effects on malignant cells. Interferon-alpha 1b has been evaluated for the treatment of viral infections (notably hepatitis B), some cancers, and investigationally for postherpetic neuralgia and other indications. It is considered a novel class of interferons with distinct rights in China and is not marketed in the US or EU[5].
