Interferon alpha-CTP (MOD-6030) is a long-acting recombinant fusion protein developed using proprietary Carboxy Terminal Peptide (CTP) technology. Originally developed by PROLOR Biotech (later acquired by OPKO Health), the drug consists of interferon alpha-2b fused to the CTP of the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This modification is designed to significantly extend the circulatory half-life of the interferon molecule, allowing for less frequent dosing compared to standard or pegylated interferon formulations. Like native interferon alpha, it binds to the Type I interferon receptor (IFNAR), initiating a signaling cascade that results in antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulatory effects. It was primarily investigated for the treatment of chronic viral infections such as Hepatitis C and various oncology indications.
