Drug intelligence / Profile preview
An interferon-alpha neutralizing antibody is a type of monoclonal antibody designed to bind to and neutralize interferon-alpha (IFN-α), a type I interferon cytokine. IFN-α is involved in innate immunity and antiviral defense, but its dysregulation or chronic overexpression is implicated in various autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, such as systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), dermatomyositis, polymyositis, and chronic kidney disease (CKD). By blocking IFN-α, these antibodies inhibit downstream signaling through the type I interferon receptor (IFNAR) and the JAK-STAT pathway, thereby reducing inflammation and tissue damage. Examples of clinical-stage anti-IFN-α antibodies include sifalimumab and rontalizumab.
