interferon beta-1a

Interferon beta-1a is a recombinant form of human interferon beta, classified as an immunomodulator and cytokine therapy. It is used primarily to treat relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS), including clinically isolated syndrome, relapsing-remitting disease, and active secondary progressive disease. Interferon beta-1a works by binding to specific cell surface receptors (interferon alpha/beta receptor 1), modulating the immune response, decreasing inflammation in the central nervous system, and reducing nerve damage that leads to MS symptoms.
