Interferon-beta-CTP (also known as MOD-9023) is a long-acting recombinant fusion protein consisting of human interferon beta-1a modified with C-terminal peptide (CTP) sequences derived from the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) beta subunit. Developed by PROLOR Biotech (now part of OPKO Health), the CTP technology significantly extends the drug's half-life and systemic exposure compared to standard interferon beta products. It acts as an agonist at the type I interferon receptors (IFNAR1 and IFNAR2), modulating immune responses and reducing inflammation. The primary therapeutic goal is to treat multiple sclerosis (MS) with a reduced injection frequency, improving patient compliance. Preclinical studies have also demonstrated potential anti-tumor activity in melanoma models.
