Overview

Interferon epsilon (IFN-ε) is a recombinant protein therapeutic and cytokine immunotherapy being developed by Epsila Bio for the treatment of advanced and metastatic ovarian cancer. As a unique type I interferon naturally expressed in the female reproductive tract, IFN-ε acts as an agonist of the type I interferon receptor (IFNAR) pathway. Its mechanism of action involves stimulating host immune responses by activating anti-tumor T cells and natural killer (NK) cells while simultaneously suppressing tumor metastasis and preventing the accumulation of immunosuppressive cells within the tumor microenvironment. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that intraperitoneal administration of IFN-ε significantly reduces tumor burden and metastasis in various ovarian cancer models, including patient-derived xenografts. The program is currently in the preclinical stage, undergoing IND-enabling activities to support transition into clinical trials.
