Overview

Interferon gamma-n1 (Ogamma) is a natural human interferon-gamma preparation co-developed by Otsuka Pharmaceutical and Hayashibara. It is a type II interferon purified from human leukocytes or myelomonocytic cells. It acts as an immunomodulator and biological response modifier by binding to the heterodimeric interferon-gamma receptor (IFNGR1/IFNGR2), which activates the JAK-STAT signaling pathway. This cascade enhances macrophage oxidative metabolism, antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), and natural killer (NK) cell activity, while upregulating major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I and II expression. Interferon gamma-n1 was approved in Japan in 1997 for the treatment of mycosis fungoides (cutaneous T-cell lymphoma).
