The interferon-treated allogeneic pancreatic tumor cell vaccine is an experimental cell-based immunotherapy developed by St. Vincent Medical Center in Los Angeles for the treatment of advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma. The vaccine is composed of allogeneic (donated) pancreatic cancer cells from tissue culture that have been pre-treated in vitro with recombinant interferon-alfa. This treatment is intended to upregulate the expression of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) molecules and tumor-associated antigens on the cell surface, increasing the likelihood of a robust immune recognition. The vaccine is administered via active intralymphatic immunotherapy (AILI), a technique designed to deliver the antigens directly into the lymphatic system. In clinical protocols, it is typically administered in conjunction with sargramostim (GM-CSF) to act as an adjuvant and low-dose cyclophosphamide to mitigate immune suppression by regulatory T cells.
