Overview

Interleukin-15 enhanced engineered natural killer cells (often referred to as IL-15 NK cells) are an adoptive cell therapy consisting of natural killer (NK) cells genetically modified to express the cytokine interleukin-15 (IL-15). IL-15 is a critical factor for the survival, proliferation, and cytotoxic activation of NK cells. By engineering these cells to produce their own IL-15, the therapy aims to improve their persistence and anti-tumor efficacy within the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment without the need for exogenous cytokine support, which is often limited by systemic toxicity. Genovn Therapeutics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. is developing a specific version of this therapy, designated as GNV-101, which is currently being evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for the treatment of refractory, relapsed, or metastatic solid tumors. The therapy leverages the innate ability of NK cells to recognize and eliminate malignant cells, bolstered by the autocrine signaling of the integrated IL-15 transgene.
