This is an autologous cellular immunotherapy developed by Antwerp University Hospital. It consists of monocyte-derived dendritic cells (DCs) that are electroporated with mRNA encoding the Wilms tumor 1 (WT1) protein and mRNA encoding a fusion of interleukin-15 (IL-15) and the interleukin-15 receptor alpha (IL-15Rα) chain. This modification allows the DCs to "transpresent" IL-15 to neighboring T cells and natural killer (NK) cells, mimicking a natural immune process that enhances the activation, survival, and effector function of these cytotoxic lymphocytes. The vaccine is primarily being investigated for the treatment of WT1-expressing malignancies, including ovarian, pancreatic, esophageal, and liver cancers.
