Interleukin-4 complex (IL-4C) is an experimental, long-acting formulation of the cytokine interleukin-4 (IL-4). It is formed by complexing recombinant IL-4 with a neutralizing anti-IL-4 monoclonal antibody, such as the rat IgG2b clone BVD4-1D11, typically at a 2:1 molar ratio. This complexation serves to extend the in vivo half-life of IL-4 from minutes to approximately 24 hours by acting as a carrier that slowly dissociates, releasing biologically active cytokine. In preclinical research, particularly in mouse models of asthma and allergic inflammation, IL-4C is utilized to induce airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR), goblet cell hyperplasia, and eosinophilia. Its therapeutic or experimental effect is mediated through the activation of the IL-4 receptor alpha (IL-4Rα) and subsequent STAT6 signaling.
