Interleukin-4 pe38kdel is an experimental anticancer agent classified as an immunotoxin. It is a recombinant chimeric fusion protein composed of human interleukin-4 (IL-4) genetically fused to a truncated form of Pseudomonas exotoxin (PE38KDEL). The drug targets cells expressing the interleukin 4 receptor (IL-4R), which are overexpressed in various cancers such as glioblastoma and ovarian cancer. Upon binding to the IL-4R on tumor cells, the toxin component is internalized and inhibits protein synthesis, leading to cell death. Preclinical studies have shown selective cytotoxicity against tumor cells with minimal effects on normal tissues. Interleukin-4 pe38kdel has been developed primarily for use in solid tumors including glioblastoma and ovarian cancer[1][2][3][6].
