Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Intesti13 + Sb-1 is an experimental two-phage cocktail consisting of the lytic bacteriophages Intesti13 and Sb-1, both belonging to the *Kayvirus* genus of the *Herelleviridae* family. Developed by the George Eliava Institute of Bacteriophages, Microbiology and Virology, this cocktail is designed to target *Staphylococcus aureus*, including methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA) and daptomycin-nonsusceptible (DNS) MRSA strains. The phages act by binding to specific bacterial cell surface receptors, injecting their genomic DNA, and undergoing a lytic cycle that results in bacterial cell lysis. This cocktail has been investigated in combination with antibiotics like daptomycin and ceftaroline, demonstrating synergistic bactericidal activity and biofilm eradication in preclinical models of deep-seated infections such as infective endocarditis and medical device-related infections.
