Overview

Intestifag is a polyvalent bacteriophage therapy developed and manufactured by the Russian company NPO Microgen, which is part of Nacimbio. It is an immunobiological preparation consisting of a sterile mixture of phage lysates designed to specifically target and destroy a range of pathogenic bacteria responsible for gastrointestinal infections. [1, 2, 8, 10, 11] The mechanism of action is phage-mediated bacterial lysis, where the bacteriophages infect and kill specific bacteria such as *Shigella*, *Salmonella*, *Escherichia coli*, *Proteus*, *Staphylococcus*, *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, and *Enterococcus*, without disturbing the normal gut microflora. [1, 2, 6] Intestifag is approved and used for the treatment and prevention of various acute intestinal conditions, including bacterial dysentery, salmonellosis, dyspepsia, and dysbacteriosis. [3, 7, 12] It is administered as an oral or rectal solution. [2, 8]
