Overview

SYN-020 is a recombinant version of bovine intestinal alkaline phosphatase (IAP) formulated for oral delivery to the small intestine. It is designed to diminish fat absorption and intestinal inflammation, tighten the gut barrier to mitigate "leaky gut," and promote a healthy microbiome. The drug acts as an IAP replacer or modulator, with potential utility in treating gastrointestinal (GI) diseases associated with inflammation such as enteritis, radiation colitis, celiac disease, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and age-related metabolic and inflammatory diseases. Developed by Synthetic Biologics (now Theriva Biologics), SYN-020 has demonstrated favorable safety profiles in Phase 1 clinical trials in healthy volunteers[1][3][4][5][7].
