By injecting the cells directly into the bone marrow space rather than using conventional intravenous infusion, the technique aims to enhance engraftment kinetics and allow for successful transplantation using significantly lower cell doses. This approach addresses a major limitation of cord blood transplantation in adults, where single UCB units often contain insufficient cell numbers for the patient's body weight.
