Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This intra-operative medication protocol was developed and utilized by the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust as part of the LIFT clinical trial for patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The regimen is a multi-modal supportive care bundle administered during surgery to manage postoperative pain, prevent nausea and vomiting, provide antibiotic prophylaxis, and control surgical bleeding. It specifically includes intravenous paracetamol for analgesia, dexamethasone and ondansetron for antiemetic prophylaxis in high-risk patients, teicoplanin and gentamicin for infection prevention, and tranexamic acid to reduce blood loss. This standardized protocol ensured consistent baseline care across both the femoral nerve block and local infiltration analgesia study arms.
