Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Intra-V is a proprietary, ready-to-use, liquid-stable aqueous intravenous formulation of the glycopeptide antibiotic vancomycin, developed by Latitude Pharmaceuticals. Utilizing the 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway, this small molecule formulation aims to provide a safer and more convenient alternative to traditional vancomycin products, which typically require reconstitution and may have stability or compatibility issues. Vancomycin exerts its antibacterial effect by binding with high affinity to the D-alanyl-D-alanine (D-Ala-D-Ala) terminus of cell wall precursor units, thereby inhibiting the synthesis and cross-linking of bacterial peptidoglycan. This action leads to the disruption of cell wall integrity and subsequent bacterial cell death. Intra-V is composed of FDA-approved ingredients and is designed to be fully compatible with common infusion solutions, potentially simplifying administration in clinical settings for treating serious bacterial infections.
