Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Intralesional Vitamin D3 is a therapeutic formulation of cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) administered via direct injection into skin lesions, used as an immunotherapeutic treatment for cutaneous viral warts caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). It acts as an immunomodulator by binding to the Vitamin D receptor (VDR) on keratinocytes and immune cells, which regulates cell proliferation, differentiation, and cytokine production. This local administration stimulates a cell-mediated immune response, leading to the clearance of both treated and distant warts. It is currently being evaluated in clinical trials, including a Phase 4 study by Riphah International University comparing its efficacy and safety against intralesional acyclovir for cutaneous viral warts.
