Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Intralipid 10%** is a sterile intravenous soybean-oil lipid emulsion used in parenteral nutrition to provide calories and essential fatty acids, including linoleic acid and alpha-linolenic acid. It contains 10% soybean oil, egg-yolk phospholipids as an emulsifier, glycerin, water for injection, and sodium hydroxide for pH adjustment. Infused lipid particles are metabolized similarly to chylomicrons, supplying energy and preventing or correcting essential fatty acid deficiency in patients unable to obtain adequate nutrition enterally. The product originated from work led by Arvid Wretlind and collaborators in Sweden and has been marketed by Fresenius Kabi.
