Overview

Intralymphatic allergenic extract is a form of allergen-specific immunotherapy (AIT) that involves the direct injection of allergen extracts into lymph nodes. This approach introduces lower doses of allergen to highly immunocompetent lymphocytes located within a specific lymph node, maximizing the probability for tolerance induction. The treatment typically consists of three ultrasound-guided injections into lymph nodes (commonly the inguinal or popliteal lymph nodes) administered approximately one month apart. Cumulative doses are about 1,000 times lower than those used in subcutaneous immunotherapy (SCIT), which reduces the risk of adverse events. After completing the intralymphatic induction protocol, patients are often transitioned to SCIT or sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT) for maintenance.
