Overview

The intranasal bivalent influenza RNA vaccine is an investigational vaccine candidate developed by the Access to Advanced Health Institute (AAHI) using its proprietary self-amplifying RNA (saRNA) platform. It is designed to provide protection against pandemic influenza strains A(H5N1) and A(H7N9). The vaccine consists of saRNA that encodes the hemagglutinin (HA) antigens of both strains, formulated within a nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) optimized for intranasal delivery. This approach is intended to elicit both systemic and mucosal immune responses, potentially offering superior protection at the site of viral entry compared to traditional intramuscular vaccines. The platform is noted for its thermostability at room temperature, which could simplify distribution in resource-limited settings. Preclinical studies have demonstrated efficacy, and the project has received funding from the Medical CBRN Defense Consortium to advance its development.
