Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Intravaginal oxybutynin is a novel formulation of the muscarinic antagonist oxybutynin, developed by FemmePharma Global Healthcare for the treatment of urge urinary incontinence (UUI) in women. By delivering the drug intravaginally, the formulation aims to provide local absorption into the bladder tissues while minimizing systemic exposure and the associated anticholinergic side effects (such as dry mouth and constipation) typically seen with oral administration. Oxybutynin works by antagonizing M1, M2, and M3 muscarinic receptors in the detrusor muscle, leading to muscle relaxation and increased bladder capacity. The product was evaluated in Phase 2 clinical trials to determine safety and efficacy across multiple doses.
