Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Intravenous immunoglobulin + steroids is a combination regimen pairing intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), a pooled human plasma-derived polyclonal IgG biologic, with a corticosteroid (such as methylprednisolone or prednisolone). This combination is widely used as an immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory therapy in clinical practice. It is recommended as a first-line treatment for multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) and is also utilized in Kawasaki disease, particularly in IVIG non-responders. Other clinical applications include relapsed adult immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), febrile refractory status epilepticus, chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP), and pediatric acute myocarditis. The regimen leverages the broad immunomodulatory effects of IVIG (such as Fc receptor blockade and cytokine neutralization) alongside the potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive actions of glucocorticoids.
